pliers
the art of closing

Saunders invented the Nok Set and the Nock Pliers closing tool in 1964.  The tool initially featured a hole drilled in the jaw to aid in closing the Nok Set, but it quickly evolved to have a thin protrusion at the front of the jaw to open the Nok Set for removal.  Later, they added a second hole to accommodate the expanding range of Nok Set sizes.

along
the development path

The first significant change in design was to narrow the knocking pliers jaw.  By using the narrow jaw, the installer could observe how they closed the Nok Set to prevent any twisting or misalignment of the knocking point.  This sounds like an easy task, but it took entirely new equipment to stamp out the plier halves and offset the joints so the jaw and handles stayed aligned.  To ensure the pliers were non-marring, they hand-polished the jaw surface and added grips to improve hand comfort.

ergonomics
comfort made simple

With the closing and opening functions refined, the last frontier for our nocking pliers was comfort.  The science of ergonomics studies how we interact with the work environment.   Utilizing this, we shaped the handle to match the curves of your hand.  Finally, a spring strip was added so that the jaws were self-opening.  The result is a simple tool dedicated to closing concisely and opening Nok Sets.  This tool is surprisingly comfortable and easy to use and fits perfectly in your hand and toolbox.  Who would have imagined that so much engineering and design would be put into perfecting this utilitarian masterpiece?

Each plier comes with 8 Saunders Nok Sets®. (2 of each size) Made in the USA.
