Field Points
field
points evolved
The history of the field point design is hard to track. By the mid-1800s, the Automated Screw Machines were in their infancy, and the capability to make vast quantities of arrow points was there. The demand for arrow points had dropped to virtually nothing since firearms had replaced the bow as a weapon long before this.
Today’s modern field point originated in the early 1940s and was first called a roving or non-skid point. The tip, slightly larger than the mid-shank section, was designed to pull out of stumps easily. This first version was a forerunner of today’s bulge points. Later, this large tip was dropped to the present field point design. The field point’s popularity is only exceeded by the bullet and our most popular combo points.

stiction
friction generates heat
Arrows sticking in target mats is no new problem. It has been increasing, just like arrow speeds. There are many variables, and point design is just one of them. We recommend switching to Combo Bulge points and lubricating your arrow with vuLube lubricant to reduce or eliminate arrows sticking in mats. For removal, the best technique is to gently wiggle and pull evenly, avoiding sharp, jerky motions. Using vu-Lube can significantly help prevent sticking, regardless of the point design. In addition to this key benefit, it’s worth noting that this product also has multiple uses across various applications. “Besides archery, you can use it at home and in the shop.”
