The history of the O-ring is much more interesting than one might think. Invented by a Dane, Niels Christensen, the O-ring was envisioned in 1933 and patented several years later in 1937, just two years before  World War II began on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. What happened next to this newly patented product is worth the read.
