Ammo is one of the last things slingshot enthusiasts consider. Everyone wants to be a great shot, but, surprise, your ammo should be one of the first things you consider. By using quality ammo, you have removed a critical variable. For example, switching to glass will result in a much larger group than steel. One could verify this by testing glass ammo on a shooting machine, but it is unnecessary; simply shoot at 25 yards. After switching to glass, your group with steel will enlarge and be unpredictable. The greater the distance, the greater the spread between steel and glass. The bottom line is if you want low-cost ammo,  plink with clay. But, if you still need convincing, the following should help.

There are three reasons glass ammo is so inaccurate. The first is obvious: glass ammo is not perfectly round. The second is that glass is highly abrasive. This means any contact with the sides of the pouch or bands will induce a spin and increase band wear. This abrasion causes flyaways, and the bands will be throwaways. Finally, glass is much lighter than steel, making it more susceptible to the wind.
